A paver driveway is a surface you can lift and reset, one stone at a time. We install paver driveways in Palm Bay and across Brevard County, on new builds and on tear-outs of old slabs. The pattern and color set the look. The base under the pavers sets how long it stays flat.
Most of Brevard sits on sand. Sand shifts when it gets soaked and when a loaded truck rolls over it. So the driveway work starts below the surface, with excavation and a packed rock base. If you want a plain gray slab instead, we also pour concrete driveways.

We mark the drive, then break out and haul off the old surface. Next comes excavation, and in sandy soil the dig for a driveway goes deeper than for a walkway. That extra depth is there to carry vehicle weight.
Base rock goes in over the cut, in layers. We wet each layer and run a plate compactor over it until it stops moving. On top of the packed base we screed a thin, even bed of sand. The pavers set into that bed.
Edge restraint pins down the outside rows so the field cannot spread sideways. That piece matters more on a driveway than anywhere else, because tires push the edges every time you turn in. We compact the surface again, then sweep joint sand into every seam. You can park on it the day we finish.
Driveway pavers are thicker than the units used on a patio. Thicker stones spread the load and resist cracking under a parked truck. We use vehicle-rated pavers on the whole drive, including the apron at the street.
You pick the pattern and the color. Herringbone is the strongest layout for a driveway, because the interlock fights the twisting force of tires. Running bond and basketweave read softer and work well inside a border. Brick pavers give the classic red tone, and concrete pavers come in tan and gray blends that hide dust.
Color choice matters here because of the sun. Dark pavers hold heat and fade faster under year-round UV. Lighter blends stay cooler and hold their tone longer. That is why most Brevard driveways land in the tan and gray range.
Some jobs are smaller than a full driveway. An extension widens a narrow concrete drive so a second car fits without a wheel in the grass. We build extensions on the same base spec as a full install. Both halves then settle at the same rate.
Ribbon strips are paver bands set along the sides of a concrete drive, or a paver apron at the street. They break up a wide gray slab for a lot less than a full paver driveway. Borders in a second color do the same job inside the field.
In an HOA suburb the driveway is the biggest thing people see from the road. A paver driveway changes the front of the house more than paint does. Check your HOA rules on color and pattern before you order, since some communities keep an approved list. The same materials carry through to paver patios out back.
A paver driveway usually fails in spots. A low area near the garage, a sunken tire track, a few stones lifted by a tree root. We pull those pavers, rebuild the base under them, then reset the same stones. The repair blends in because the material is already weathered to match.
When the whole field has gone wavy, relaying makes more sense. We lift the pavers, stack them, rebuild the base to spec, and set them back down. You keep the stones you paid for and get a flat drive out of it. Relaying costs less than a full replacement when the pavers are still sound.
Upkeep is light. Sweep new joint sand into the seams when they start to open, usually every couple of years. Sealing is optional and mostly a color choice, since it deepens the tone and slows staining. If your concrete driveway is sound and you want pavers on top of it, that is a paver overlay instead.
Paver driveway cost comes down to a few things. Square footage first, then how much old material has to come out and get hauled away. Access matters too, because a narrow side yard means moving base rock by hand.
The paver itself moves the number. Standard rectangles cost less than tumbled or large-format units, and a two-color border adds cuts. Slope and drainage add work when water has to run away from the garage door.
